Da Zhang Wei, Owodog visit Shenzhen

TAIWAN boy band Lollipop member Owodog and former The Flowers singer Da Zhang Wei met their fans Thursday night at the Golden Harvest Shenzhen Cinema, promoting their comedy “Martial Spirit.”

In the Mandarin flick, Owodog and Da Zhang Wei play a pair of youngsters who are obsessed with martial arts, enacting one comic opera after another.

“Both Owodog and Da Zhang Wei are newcomers to acting and that’s exactly why I cast them,” said producer Paco Wong at a press conference at the cinema Thursday. “I hope to promote more fresh faces and new idols in my movies.”

Da Zhang Wei (born Zhang Wei) is the former lead vocalist and guitarist for The Flowers, a Beijing-based pop boy band. Dubbed “China’s first famous adolescent band,” The Flowers had barely blossomed into youth when they first appeared on the Chinese music scene in 1998. The group released six albums before they split in June.

“Now I’m mostly engaged in hosting TV shows,” Da Zhang Wei told the press conference. “At first, I didn’t want to star a movie because in singing and hosting, I can be myself, while in acting, I have to be someone else. Anyway, starring in ‘Martial Spirit’ was a learning process for me.”

Owodog (born Zhuang Haoquan) is also a singer, a host, an actor, and a short film director and has contributed three lyrics to the group’s albums.
